MEETINGS OF MILAN AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY

On Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, there will be an entertaining powerpoint presentation on the Blackmer family, by Martha Churchill. This will include photos and drawings of this family that had such an impact on Milan history. The program will take place at the Senior Center at 7 p.m. and refreshments will be served.

The March Program will feature Martha Churchill giving a presentation on her new book, "MILAN" published in 2010 by Arcadia Press. This will be a book signing also. The date is probably the third Wednesday, or March 17, probably at 7 p.m. at the Senior Center.

The planning committee for the celebration of Milan's 125th anniversary as a village-- meeting dates will be posted here as the information becomes available to the webmaster.

OTHER EVENTS:

Saline Area Historical Society has invited Martha Churchill to speak at their program meetingFeb. 21 at the Saline Public Library, at 2:00 p.m., to give a power point presentation on Electric Interurbans of Washtenaw County. This is of special interest in Saline since they had an interurban running down their main street, connecting them to Ypsilanti, until the system was dismantled at the end of the 1920's.

The Greater Milan Area Community Foundation will have a fundraising dinner Saturday Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. at Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Ann Arbor. Obtain tickets in advance, if possible, from any member of the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation Board.

On March 28, Sunday, the Washtenaw Genealogical Society has asked Martha Churchill to be the main speaker, to give a program on electric interurbans in Washtenaw County. Their meetings start at 1:30 p.m. at the Education Center, St. Joe's Hospital. Park in Parking Lot P and enter the main doors to find the auditorium. This will also be a book signing for "Electric Interurbans of Washtenaw County (Arcadia Press) by Martha Churchill and H. Mark Hildebrandt.
